Elder Gregory Johnson, Sr. was born in Columbus, Georgia. Pastor Johnson is married to his wife Bettie and is the proud father of Gregory Jr., Zachary, and Alexandria. Pastor Johnson completed his early education in the School District of Columbus, Georgia, completing his schooling at Carver High in 1978. Pastor Johnson currently holds a Masters of arts in Christian Counseling.

Pastor Johnson accepted Jesus Christ as his savior at an early age at the Antioch Baptist Church of Columbus, Georgia. However, it is important to note that Pastor Johnson was re-baptized at the Olivet Baptist Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee as an adult.

It was at the Olivet Baptist Church, under the pastorate of Kevin L. Adams, that Pastor Johnson was ordained as a Deacon on the 6th day of November, 1994. On the 28th day of January, 1996, Pastor Johnson was licensed to preach The Gospel of Jesus Christ. Three years later, on the 6th day of June, 1999, Pastor Johnson was ordained and given the title of Elder.

After his ordination, Pastor Johnson was selected by Pastor Adams to become the churches first Youth Pastor. Pastor Johnson served in this position until he left Chattanooga in June of 2000. In 2000, Pastor and his family moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Later that year he and his family joined the Metropolitan Baptist Church, where he served as an associate.

In March of 2004, The Metropolitan Baptist Church, voted to call Pastor Johnson as their pastor.

Pastor Johnson was installed in July of that same year.

Prior to serving in ministry, Pastor Johnson worked in television and later taught radio and television production in a high school.
Elder Johnson began working at WTVM- TV after high school. He worked in various departments.
In 1979, he accepted a position as staff photographer in the newsroom.
After a few years, Elder Johnson moved from Columbus, Ga. to Birmingham, AL as a staff photographer and later became the Assistant Chief Photographer.

Elder Johnson Spent 22 years in television working in such markets as Miami, Florida, Chattanooga, TN. Before leaving TV, Pastor Johnson was awarded for his photography work by the Associated Press. Pastor Johnson left television to teach TV and Radio production at Howard High School. He was working at Howard High School when he moved to Philadelphia.
